Black Slime Mold

Black slime mold is most often found on cultivated and weedy grasses. The time of year when the odor of black slime is common outdoors is when you have a prolonged period of rain and the grasses and leaves get really wet. This mold usually occurs from late spring to early fall in some places, not just from the rain but from the high humidity of the summer heat. One way to eliminate the odor of black slime mold around your home is to keep the lawn mowed on a regular basis.

Black slime mold may occur in the same places every year. Areas with poor drainage may be the prime breeding grounds for this type of black mold because of the excess moisture on the plants and leaves. There are various species of molds that grow on plants outdoors and will cause discoloration of the leaves. This is one way you can tell whether you have to consider black mold elimination in your garden.

It is often hard to smell the black mold odor outdoors because of the wide spaces and the fresh air. You probably won’t even realize that there is a problem with black slime mold if you do not spend any amount of time gardening. However, once the black mold reaches a certain stage, you will smell the odor when you go near any areas of grass that have it on their leaves.

The main problem with having black slime mold on grasses around your home is that the mold does turn powdery and then it can blow in through open doors and windows of the house. It is hard to permanently eliminate the black mold odor and the black mold unless you look at ways of improving the drainage of your property.

There are ways on managing the black slime mold so that it doesn’t spoil the look of your lawn. If the areas where you find the black mold are not near you r home, you might let nature take its course and do nothing about it. Of course, you will have to live with the black mold odor. If you have a heavy infestation, you can mow, rake and pole the grass as a method of black mold elimination. You can also wash the black slime mold off the leaves with a powerful garden hose, but you have to make sure you are going to have dry weather in order to keep from making the problem worse.
