Toxic Mold Side Effects

Toxic mold side effects can manifest themselves in three ways – as allergies, infections and toxicity. The effects that mold has on our health is only recently coming to light and the extent of the harm it can cause is not really well known. Although there have been deaths in infants attributed to exposure to toxic mold, the statistics for this are not really high. However, it is common knowledge that toxic mold side effects do make people sick and are often called toxic mold syndrome.

The term toxic mold is somewhat misleading as it leads you to think that only certain kinds of mold are harmful. While black mold is regarded as the most common household toxic mold, there are all kinds of health symptoms of toxic mold. People with mold allergies often think they are getting a cold or that they are suffering from a pollen allergy. The fact is that many times doctors misdiagnose toxic mold side effects as allergies to other things because the symptoms are so much alike. It is often only through the process of elimination that you often discover that you are suffering from the side effects of toxic mold.

Quite often you may have toxic mold in your home and not even be aware of it. For many people, the realization that they are suffering from toxic mold side effects only comes after they read or hear about the problem. The reason that you don’t see the household toxic mold is that it is usually in hidden places such as on the floor under your carpet or flooring, in the grooves of the flooring or walls of the bathroom or in a little used part of the basement.

Some of the health symptoms of toxic mold include watery and itchy eyes, stuffy nose, or even more serious respiratory problems. As you can see, these symptoms are very commonly associated with other illnesses and the medication does help to clear up the problem. If you notice stains on the walls or ceilings of your home, you can immediately connect them to toxic mold side effects if you or someone else in your family has recurring allergies.

Exposure to mold can bring about toxic mold side effects for anyone, but those most at risk are infants, children, those with immune problems, pregnant women, seniors and individuals with respiratory problems such as asthma. The household toxic mold is airborne and therefore you breathe in the mold spores, especially if you disturb them. Although people are exposed to mold outdoors, it is the indoor mold that causes the health symptoms of toxic mold. This is because the levels of humidity are higher inside the home and the air is not ventilating the same as it is outdoors. Although mold is common in all homes and buildings, you do have to take steps to remove it because of the toxic mold side effects that can make you really sick.
